Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers’ Managing Partner, Hanaan Indari, today paid tribute to retired Partner Paul O’Callaghan who passed away on Wednesday, 14 June after a long illness.
“Paul was well respected and widely acknowledged as an expert in workers compensation law”, said Ms Indari. “In Kooragang Cement Pty Ltd -v- Bates, Paul was instrumental in the formulation of a new causation test, which came to be accepted and is now the leading authority on the topic of causation.
“Paul joined Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers at the start of his career before establishing and running his own firm for many years.
“His return to Carroll & O’Dea as a Partner 16 years ago saw him establish our Newcastle office, which plays such a vital role in our delivery of legal services across the Hunter region and the North Coast of NSW. Paul was dedicated to his clients and passionate about getting the best outcome he could as they sought access to justice for their injuries. He also played an important role at the Firm as a mentor to junior lawyers over many years.
“After Paul retired formally as a Partner, we were most fortunate that he continued with us as Special Counsel, continuing to share his expertise and skill with clients as well as our team.
“On behalf of everyone at Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers, I want to publicly recognise Paul’s enormous contribution to the law and to our Firm. We extend to his wife and family our sincerest condolences on his passing. He will be greatly missed by us all”, said Ms Indari.
