Matthew is part of the Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers’ property team, which provides a comprehensive transaction and advice service across the eastern states of Australia on all property law matters.
He advises clients on all kinds of property transactions, including commercial and retail leasing, transfers developments and construction projects as well as advice regarding lease disputes and transaction structures. Matthew has many years’ experience in negotiating complex legal documents while ensuring he remains focused on his client’s commercial objectives.
Matthew provides expert advice on retail and commercial leasing matters including initial advice during the commercial negotiation for the new lease, drafting, negotiating, and completing formal documentation, and, if necessary, dispute resolution.
He drafts and negotiates construction contracts and advises clients about all aspects of a construction project.
Matthew acts for major retail and commercial property management corporations, advising on all aspects of retail and commercial leasing transactions, shopping centre redevelopment, land title office issues, retail legislation and corporations’ law.
He also assists clients in the not-for-profit space, advising in relation to property development, construction, and land dealings
Matthew presents seminars on property law topics for clients and industry groups. These seminars can relate to core property law topics, the retail leases Acts across all Australian jurisdictions, and issues associated with property law including corporations, privacy, and consumer law issues.
He reviews new case law and legislation relating to the property industry, frequently writing articles about changes and developments in law that impact on property management and business.
Matthew is based in Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers’ Sydney office, located on the lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. Matthew acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work and pays respects to the Elders past and present.
Key Professional Achievements
- Matthew obtained his law degree from the University of NSW and also has tertiary qualifications in science and philosophy.
- He was admitted as a solicitor in NSW in 2007 and joined Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers in the same year.
- Matthew was made an Associate at Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers in November 2009 and a Partner in 2015.
