Carroll and O’Dea hosted a special ANZAC event on Tuesday 30 April. Billy Young was a POW as a teenager in Changi, Sandakan and Outram Road prisons and he shared his experiences with a full-house. We heard of his enlistment, capture, incarceration and the tragic effects of war on his life and his salvation through art and expression. Billy is a larrikin and with a spirit that could not be broken, he described the importance of mateship and a sense of humour even when things were dire. Interviewed by Anthony Hill Billy had the entire audience captivated.
